This composition creates improvisational space for both the performer and the machine, using conditional triggers as a randomizing and spontaneous foundation. Most of these sequences are pre programmed, but manipulated live, and no two performances or recordings of this work will be alike.

Finding the balance between randomized key modulation, compositional flow, and making directional choices that compliment the organic elements has been a process of weeks worth of work. Some fragments stand out as being wild or out of tune, but the work tends to modulate back into key just when things seem to be falling apart. It mirrors the present aspects of my life that continuously struggle between tension, pain, harmony, ecstasy, and struggling to hold all the pieces together without breaking down.

The Lost Body is a mournful reflection on the effects of overwork in a capitalist society, the damages done to the body by trying to perform like a machine. Here, the Octatrack controlling the synthesizers is programmed to be unpredictable, to become less of a machine and more of a spontaneous entity.

The cover art reflects this, as my own reflection is set on the Octatrack, simultaneously giving a face to the machine, and abandoning my own body for that of the means of production.
